D.C indie punk band Makeshift Shelters release their first full length album Something So Personal on February 24. There is a lot of talk that this band sounds similar to Paramore but honestly it is just because they are a female fronted band. Makeshift Shelters is more than just another Paramore wannabe. They are a band whose music has heart and is sure to catch your ear. Something So Personal is an album encompassing every feeling of a broken heart. Each song is filled with catchy, distorted, punk guitar riffs coupled with beautiful vocal melodies. The lyrics on this album evoke feelings of sadness, anger, longing, and loneliness. On the track “This Song Is Definitely Not About A Boy” singer Ella calls bullshit on an ex. It is sure to become every indie punker’s heartbreak anthem.
Makeshift Shelter’s first full length album is sure to turn them into more than a D.C. DIY band. This album shows that they are a force to be recon with in the indie punk scene. They merge the line between indie pop and post-punk in a way that appeals to both types of listeners.
